Hidden Gems around Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. EDITION – @THISGIRLGIGGLES

Washington, D.C. is one of the most popular destinations in the United States for tourists. But, other than those famous monuments, have you wondered where the locals go for coffee, eat, and hang out?

Here are my top hidden gems I’ve found in Washington, D.C.:

Leopold’s Kafe in Georgetown

3315 Cady’s Aly NW, Washington, DC 20007

This little cute cafe is hidden behind those busy Georgetown streets. While tourists are standing in line at Georgetown Cupcakes, find the hallway to take the stairs down directly to K gorgeous patio. This hip, modern, European cafe offers coffee, pastries, and brunch. However, I only recommend Kafe Leopold for pastries and coffee. Brunch is a bit over priced and mediocre but their desserts are out of the park.

My absolute favourite dessert: Fraisier

(Almond cake layered with pistachio mousse and fresh strawberries)

Peking Gourmet Inn in Falls Church

6029 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22041

Holy peking! I normally don’t eat ducks but I can eat ducks here every day if I could. This restaurant is a little outside of Washington, D.C. but it is so worth the drive. Food and service is phenomenal. Order the Peking duck ($43), not because it’s strangely delicious but for the experience as well. The waiter will slice the duck in front of you and actually show you how to wrap the duck onto the pancake with hoisin sauce, scallions, etc.

Find Albert Einstein Memorial

2101 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC 20418

Yes, after you go see Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson… be sure to find Einstein! The statute looks a bit small in the picture but it’s 21 feet tall! Not very many tourists even know there is such thing as Albert Einstein Memorial! Be the first of your friends to visit.
